Issue 10: Mattea - Miss Earth Canada 2019

Statistically, “Women-Owned enterprises have remained underrepresented in the Canadian economy” (Statistics Canada, 2018). Although, within the past century the rate of Female owned businesses has been increasing rapidly with a higher rate of economic growth. For our Miss Earth Canada 2019, Mattea is passionate about carving out conversations around female representation in the business sector.

Through her experiences, Mattea has met some of the most incredible women in business; however, all too often women are stereotyped based on their gender within this particular sector. Mattea is passionate towards ending this stigma, while aiming to make an individual’s skills and talents determine their place within a business rather than based off of their identity. The lack of female representation within the business sector is a conversation that needs to be discussed worldwide, as in some countries females are discouraged to pursue this line of work.

For Mattea, Storytelling is a major concept that is of extreme importance; every person has their own story to tell, while having the ability to use their actions and voice as a very powerful tool to inspire change. Mattea aims to continue to connect with others to learn and share their stories, as she believes that inspiriting actions allows others to aspire to inspire others as well. As she believes you cannot just talk about an issue without walking it too, Mattea aims to continue to carve out and take up her space with positivity and gratitude to inspire others to do the same.

Her biggest advice, JUST DO IT! You are the only one who can truly start something you wish to accomplish. Remember, you write your own story!
