Issue 17: Dawn - Mrs. Galaxy Simcoe 2020/2021

147 million people worldwide have or will develop Alopecia at some point in their lives. Alopecia is a condition in which is characterized by the complete loss of hair on the scalp and the body. For Mrs. Galaxy Simcoe 2020/2021, Dawn is an Alopecia Advocate aiming to bring more awareness and empower those within her community.

Dawn has lived with Alopecia Universalis, an advanced form of Alopecia Areata, for the past 32-years. She experienced difficulties to find her self-esteem and confidence living with this condition; through the highs and lows, Dawn has been a pillar of hope for other’s living with the same condition. She has been bravely outspoken within the Alopecia Community, and actively empowering others while raising awareness about the definition of true beauty.

Losing her hair within 1-week at the age of seven, taught Dawn at a young age about the importance of courage, resilience, and self-love towards herself and others. Dawn is an exceptional representation for the bald community, showcasing to the world that beauty comes in all forms. Especially representing that “Bald is Beautiful!”

Dawn is a Mentor with the Canadian Alopecia Areata Foundation, an organization which helps to provide an encouraging and safe space for Canadians with Alopecia. Where they aim to help those living with the condition to share their experiences while providing those with information regarding the condition along with support services. Dawn has been a vital part in the early growth of the Canadian Alopecia Areata Foundation, as she is one of the organization’s founding Board Members.

In her spare time Dawn is a mother of 9-year-old triplets, where she strives to teach them the importance of respect and love for themselves and others.

While being a stellar mother and Alopecia Advocate, Dawn also spends her time representing Simcoe, Ontario as the 2020-2021 Mrs. Galaxy Simcoe. Where she will expand her advocation efforts on the Canada Galaxy Pageant Stage on August 21st to August 23rd, 2021, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Dawn will be competing against nineteen other women from across Canada for the title of Mrs. Galaxy Canada for the opportunity to represent Canada on the Galaxy International Stage in 2022.

Dawn is a proud representative of the bald community and aims to showcase to the world the true meaning behind “Bald is Beautiful.”
